Timmy Ballgame

Timmy loves baseball! He always wants to watch it on TV or play it in the yard. I wonder where he gets it from? As you can see, he already has a better swing than his Uncle James!

Birthdays

Since the last time I posted anything, Abby turned 4!!! We had a wonderful dinosaur birthday party for her at a local playground (Buttermilk Falls), and she insisted on inviting her entire preschool! Thankfully the weather cooperated and we had an awesome day. Because having 20+ kids at our house would have been a pretty un-awesome day. A lot of my time was spent with the video camera, so at some point I will render the video small enough to put it on here, but for now, enjoy a few pictures of that great day! (Not included are pictures of Karen's really cool homemade dinosaur cake and dinosaur cookies - somebody took a picture of them, so once we get them I'll put those up as well. We only have a video...)

Daddy and his little girl.

Abby scarfing down some cake. I believe she's eating the candy on top that made the stegosaurus plates. Daddy ate most of those...

Decorations and good friends.

The one thing Abby repeatedly asked us for was a kitchen set. And being wrapped around her finger, we got her one. After about 4 -5 hours of assembly (seriously, not even the knobs were attached), we surprised her with it the night before her birthday (since she had to go to preschool on her birthday, we wanted her to be able to play with it as soon as she got it). She loves it! In fact, she was so excited the first night Karen had to cover it with a blanket at bedtime, because Abby said "I can't sleep because it's just so beautiful."

Yes, we do have 2 children, and Timmy did have a birthday during our recent journey toward summertime. We didn't particularly have a party, but he did have cake! Karen and the kids picked me up from school and we all went to a local pizza place called The Nines, where we had Tim's favorite 2 things...pizza and cake! He was very excited!

Not to be outdone, here's Abby with her cake at Grandma and Grandpa's! She had a wonderful time with G&G and Aunt Sarah during her special birthday weekend, and while Karen and I didn't exactly relax while she was away, we got a ton of cleaning done. That's cool, right? No? Yeah, I guess we're getting old. Anyway, the last picture is just a beautiful one of Abigail in Duanesburg opening some presents. Look at that smile!

These boots were made for...

Timmy took his first real steps today! I bet that within a week or two he'll be predominately using his legs rather than all fours. As an aside, I just watched a video of Abby at the same age, and, well, Timmy had better start practicing!

He's such a boy. Everything he gets his hands on, he slams into the ground. And he's in to everything! The cabinets, the closets, the drawers, the heating vents, the toilet...you name it, and he's elbow deep in it. Abby was never like this! Anyway, here's a video of his first steps.

Christmas Fun

Christmas was very nice this year. We spent the weeks leading up to the big day in Ithaca, went to Christmas Eve service at our church (Bethel Grove), and opened up presents here in Ithaca on Christmas morning. It was great!

Below is a picture of our family on Christmas Eve at our church. It is VERY different from last year, when we only had ONE child! God has blessed us with Timothy, and we are ever grateful! After the family photo are shots of Abby and Timmy on the night we decorated our tree. Both enjoyed the experience, and Timmy managed to break many fewer ornaments than Abby broke last year (5).

Next are two pictures of la casa de Vincent on the night before Christmas. Abby left out some yummy cookies and milk for Santa, and some carrots for his reindeer! In turn, Santa left Abby a bunch of presents under the tree =).

Christmas morning. It was all smiles, and mmm, that wrapping paper tastes good!

The last two pictures are from the mall. Karen and the kids went to sit on Santa's lap, only Santa had just left on his sleigh! The woman was nice enough to whisper to Karen, "come back in 15 minutes and you can take your own picture on Santa's chair!" So she got some cute pictures of the kids, including this one of Timmy and the last one, which we used for our 2008 Christmas card.

Autumn Fun

Forgive me...this post was intended to be a Christmas post, but I have so many Autumn/Halloween/Thanksgiving pictures that I haven't posted I might as well do it now! Christmas can wait. Yes, I should update the site more often.

Timmy loved playing in the leaves (and eating them), while Abby loved jumping in them and throwing them.

For Halloween this year, Abigail was a princess and Timothy was her frog prince (didn't Karen do a great job making his costume?). I was David Ortiz ("Big Papi"...#34 on the Red Sox), and Karen was...I'm not quite sure. Euro trash? An 80's Pop star? The jury is still out. We had a great time trick-or-treating on our street, and got plenty of candy (which daddy ate most of). One little boy even asked me "who are you?" I responded, "I'm Big Papi, David Ortiz!" He threw back, "You can't be him, your skin's not dark enough." Point taken.

Next is a picture of most of Abby's preschool class dressed up for Halloween. Hit that pinata! So cute! Timmy even got a swing at it, but guess who dealt the fatal blow? That's right, Karen. Duh.

Finally, here are a few random pre-Winter pictures. First is Timmy and his buddy Susanna (Abby's buddy Owen's little sis). Second is the Jack-O-Lantern that Abby and Mommy carved, and a deer subsequently ate. Third is Abby and Timmy in a laundry basket - they're still so small! And last, Abigail is "feeding" a baby doll before she put her in a shoebox to mail to a less fortunate little girl somewhere in the world (that was a very special thing Abigail and Karen did together). Enjoy!

On the Move

As of two days ago, Timmy can crawl!  For a while he had been either gyrating on his hands and knees or just flailing on his tummy, but he finally put it all together and now he can't be stopped.  Time to move everything off the bottom shelves...again.

All About Abby!

So being a PhD student with four classes, a teacher's assistantship, and a research assistantship is very time-consuming...who knew? Sorry for not putting up any new pictures of the kids over the past couple of months, but free time is not something easily found in Ithaca (unlike liberal hippies, who are found here in abundance). The last few months have been very busy, and I'm sure the next two won't be a picnic, but for this weekend at least I have a bit of a respite and can update you all on our beautiful daughter!

Probably the biggest new thing in Abby's life (other than discovering Barbie dolls) is that she is now in pre school! She goes three days a week, for three hours each day, to a wonderful school with a bunch of great kids - many of whom also attend our church. And the teachers are great, too! Sometimes it's hard to get Abby to admit it, but she loves going to school...especially to play with her new main squeeze, Owen.

Here are some pictures from Abby's first day of school in, ahem, early September (sorry). She slept with rags in her hair like her mommy used to do, and was all smiles as she got ready.

Even for little kids, it's important to make a good first impression. You can't have unsightly nose drool messing up your first day of school. She's definitely a Vincent, because she must have learned this from Uncle James.

Awww.

Here she goes!!! Don't worry honey, if you're like your daddy you can stop going to school in 29 years. Good grief, I need to reevaluate things.

Each student has their own cubby. Here is Abigail's.

Now moving on to the kids' first field trip. The class went to Cornell's apple orchards to learn about everybody's favorite pie filling, and to enjoy Ithaca's beautiful Autumn weather (both weeks of it). The first picture is Abby with her buddy Judalyn. She was her best friend for a couple of weeks, until she found the aforementioned Owen. Like I said, it's a great group of litte ones!

Just playing around on some giant pumpkins. Good times.

Here's the future class of 2023! Abby's in the back, if you can't find her.

Each kid got to pick one apple (lame, I know), but Abby enjoyed it nonetheless.

Hey, it's Timmy! Apples for everybody!

Finally, two pictures of Abby and the hay maze. First, her cautious entrance, then her trimuphant emergence!

I hope you enjoyed this little look into Abby's life. Granted, raising a headstrong 3 year old is not always as easy as the pictures make it seem, but we are blessed nevertheless. The next update will be some pictures of the kids doing Autumn stuff. Pumpkins, leaves, etc. See you soon!
